Biography

My name is Joonie Jong. I go by the stage name Drolym. I was born and raised in the San Fransisco Bay Area of California. I have been playing piano for most of my life, beginning classical lessons at age 7.  By age 12, I was teaching myself electric guitar and bass. This unlocked my creativity in music. I started recording my original ideas into GarageBand, which was my gateway to the exciting and complex world of audio engineering. I soon upgraded to Logic Pro and began producing original songs, occasionally collaborating with friends.

By age 13, I joined the worship team at my local church playing piano. I became immersed in the culture of dozens of musicians and audio engineers, all gathered at church. Between church services, I would alternate between spending time with the band and pestering the audio engineers to learn more. From the band, I learned how to properly wrap cables, set up and tear down a stage, troubleshoot audio and technical issues, run a live service, and improvise when needed. From the audio engineers, I learned invaluable microphone placement techniques, mixing methods, and studio maintenance procedures. Through volunteering at church, I was also able to record in professional studios, a privilege not many teenagers can attest to having. I believe these experiences give me an edge when it comes to other audio engineers my age.

In 2015, I began college in Columbus, Ohio at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business to study Marketing. I also began to pursue a minor in Music, Media & Enterprise, and picked up a second minor in Fashion & Retail Studies.

Outside of my schoolwork, I ran a home recording studio business for 4 years in Columbus. In my audio work, I provide excellent customer service and serve as a collaborative creative partner, both of which I have given to over two dozen clients. Through this business, I have fostered many close friendships. These friendships live in permanence in the music we have created.

I now live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Bellevue, Washington, where I have been working for a Fortune 150 corporation for the last year. I work on music daily.
